About the Project
Midgies is an action packed comedy-horror feature film project that was originally the brainchild of screenwriter and author, Barry Hutchison.
Having lived in the Highlands for most of his life, Barry is painfully familiar with the bitey wee beasties that take to the air every summer, making everyone’s lives a misery.
While avoiding doing any real work, Barry came up with the idea for a horror movie based on the dreaded Midgie scourge, and shared it in one of his reader groups on Facebook.
The response was overwhelming, with media interest coming in from all over the globe, and a BBC News article about the idea racking up over 100,000 views in the first 24 hours.
The project caught the eye of Glasgow-based director, Alessio Avezzano, who will helm the production of the film through his company, Mythic Picnic.
